The Calico Mountain Roundup

General Info

The BLM had a wild horse roundup scheduled for December 1st, 2009, but the roundup was postponed due to the IDAUSA - In Defense of Animals USA - filing a lawsuit against the roundups.

In this roundup, the BLM rounded up 1,922 wild horses. The BLM preformed this roundup to prevent an 'emergency' roundup later this summer due to overpopulation (for every 1 wild horse out there, there are 150 cattle - who's overpopulating?). As of now, there are only about 600 wild horses left to roam the Calico Mountains of Nevada. Before the roundup, there were over 3,000 wild horses and burros.

These horses from the Calico Mountains were sent to the Indian Lakes Road Short-Term holding facility in Fallon, NV, for preparation for adoption through BLM's adoption program or to be sent to long-term holding facilities.

As of Thursday, February 11, 2010, there have been 41 deaths of Calico Mountain horses - due to colic, miscarriage, having to be put down, or otherwise - reported from the Indian Lakes road facility.

So, What Does This Add Up To?

For a grand total, throughout 11 days in February 2010, there were 15 deaths, and two foal miscarriages. What does that say about what's happening to these animals? I'm absolutely sure that if these animals had not been forced to move off of their homeland, 99.9% of them would NOT have died in those 11 days. Virtually, the BLM is killing these horses. I could've gone on with the horse death toll counts, but I've decided not to. The horses were rounded up in December, and in three months, there have been a total death count of 41 animals. 41 ANIMALS!!! That is a lot of horses, you guys.

If you've paid attention, and if you've read my previous post, you'll notice that the BLM is NOT what they appear to be. They claim that, by removing hundreds of horses from their homelands, they are protecting our land and freeing more space for cattle. What does it look like, though? Doesn't it look to you like they are killing off horses with no conscience? That sure is what this looks like to me!

Way to go, BLM. What the heck? Why? WHY would you just destroy 41 horses (so far), and take thousands more off of their homelands? These are the questions running through your head right now as you're thinking "Oh, shoot. This is terrible. How can I stop this?" Well, the answer is this: send a letter to the president, or sign a petition! I WILL find a petition online or something, and if you want, you can sign it. I found one the other day where thousands of people had signed it. Obviously, thousands of us want this madness stopped. The question is: Do YOU?
